Build an Amazing Bond With Your Child by Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is highly recommended by mothers around the world and doctors will encourage it immediately after birth. It is a very beautiful, rewarding experience for both mom and baby. The nutrients, vitamins, and antibodies given to your baby make it worth the time and energy a mother spends right after labor and delivery. The baby will have fewer illnesses and ear infections if a mom chooses to breastfeed. The health benefits are so great that I can’t understand why any mom wouldn’t try to breastfeed. Granted it’s not something every woman can do, or even wants to do, but if anyone is even slightly interested, it’s worth a try. If a mom has a large supply of milk and wants to feel the closeness, she will find it to be a loving, satisfying and wonderful experience in the first weeks and months of her baby’s life.

When the baby first comes into the world, it is important to create a bond from the beginning. Breastfeeding will allow mom and baby to grow, learn, love and bond through breastfeeding. The baby will immediately learn who mom is and what mom has to offer her 24 hour presence and devotion through breastfeeding. Mom will have a “mommy smell” on her skin that baby will get used to. She will have a closeness that no one else will know except baby and mom. A quiet room where a baby can feel peace, love and a gentle touch with mom is a special bond that no one can know like a nursing mom. Breastfeeding has a small hurdle at first. Moms can get overwhelmed and want to stop because of the inexperience, cracked nipples, and pain that comes with the beginning of breastfeeding. If mom can get through those first couple of weeks and commit to baby, it will be well worth the stress that comes with the early stages of breastfeeding.

Although breastfeeding is a great way to bond and grow with your baby, there are alternative ways to give your baby the value of breast milk. If latching becomes a problem or mom isn’t comfortable with baby at the breast, an alternative could be pumping. By using expressed milk your baby gets all the vitamins, nutrients and antibodies, but receives your milk through a bottle. I recommend using the Medela pump. It allows you to pump milk from both breasts at the same time. It has speed options and a travel pack for pumping on the go. It even includes a car charger if you’re brave enough to pump on the road. I don’t recommend doing this unless you are the passenger and have tinted windows.

Pumping also allows fathers, siblings, grandparents, babysitters and anyone else to feed your baby. This will allow you to be free to go out and spend a day or night alone. Value your “ME” time. It is very important for a healthy and well-rounded new mom. You will be a better mom if you make time for me because you will have the time to renew, renew and renew.

Pumping can be done at any time. It is important to pump when your breasts feel bloated or very full. This will allow you to save milk by freezing it in breastmilk freezer bags for later use. You can actually use frozen milk up to 6 months after the day you pumped it. Pumping also allows you to increase your milk supply. Mothers returning to work usually pump during the work day and freeze or refrigerate their expressed milk for later use. Pumping in the morning before a morning workout has always benefited me. It is not easy to run with a full chest. Pumping at night before bed helps prevent middle-of-the-night bloating. All in all, pump to save or pump to have a day off. Dads will be grateful to help and have a bonding experience when feeding their baby with a bottle. Every time you pump your breasts will be ready for the next feeding because they are constantly producing milk around the clock.

Research says that any amount of breast milk given to your baby is valuable and important. A large number of women breastfeed until the age of 1 year. Some women only do it for two weeks. Whatever you can give is ideal. Many women don’t have stay-at-home options, so they are forced to return to work, and breastfeeding around the clock is not an easy task. Pumping at work becomes a daily chore so that mom doesn’t stress too much during the day. Moms can breastfeed as long as mom and baby are happy. If a mom chooses to breastfeed until age 2, there is nothing wrong or shameful about it. Breastfeeding can be one of the most rewarding things you can do as a mom.

Stopping breastfeeding can be difficult. In my experience, the longer I nursed, the harder it became to wean my baby. The doctor will say to start the weaning process by reducing the number of times your baby goes to the breast. Pick the easiest time and remove that feeding first. Keep doing this from easiest to hardest. Your baby will learn the new procedure of the program. It’s hard to do, but it will free up moms to do other things and eventually the baby will need to learn other forms of feeding. At the age of 4-6 months babies can learn how to drink from a cup and the taste of other foods. Solid foods become more common and whole milk plays a big role at age 1. Once breastfeeding becomes frustrating, a fight, or a struggle for you, it’s time to stop.

What do you think; How was your breastfeeding experience?
