Motocross Is a Lifestyle
The older we get the more we notice how it’s more of the little things in life that mean the most to us. There’s something that’s been in my life since I was 4 and it was a huge cost to my parents, but it also meant the world to me. Motocross is one of the biggest parts of my life and something I will continue to do until I probably can’t and pass it on to my kids one day. But now that I have grown up and taken over the financial side of the sport I realize how expensive it all is for such a sport.
There will always be a “bad side” to everything we do in life. With motocross, it seems to be a very steep mountain to climb. For starters, there are the bikes you ride, the protective gear and bike accessories that will cost anywhere from $5k as a kid to 15k when you get the bigger bikes. Along with these costs you will also pay for gas to travel to the games, fees to enter the games, and hotel or camper fees if you have a camper. As the bad side applies to a sport that is the financial side of motocross. These costs add up over the years of acquiring new bikes, tools and parts. These could put a financial burden on you and your family.
Although there is a significant downside to motocross, I have to say that the big part of motocross is the big and small parts in life that it will give you. As I said before, I have been racing and riding dirt bikes since I was 4 years old. This sport has been a huge part of my life and will be for the rest of it. Motocross is the part of me that will always bring out the adrenaline junkie and the little kid trying to fly and be exactly what he imagines the superstars to be. Motocross gave me the feeling of flying and the feeling of crashing into the earth at a high rate of speed. Those feelings good and bad are something I would never trade for anything. There is nothing more liberating than being out on your bike whether on a track, trails or just out in the middle of some open field and being able to go where you want or as fast as you want. The feeling you get as you fly 50 feet off the ground and for a distance of 150 feet is like no other. It’s almost like I have motocross running through my veins and it only feels so good and clear when I’m on my dirt bike. After riding for so long, you feel like the bike is an extension of you. There are always the great feelings of winning races or championships, but those feelings that come over you when you’re riding mean the most to me.
Another rewarding aspect of the sport is seeing young kids grow up to love the sport as much as I did growing up. It’s always so nice to be able to help the younger generation improve by giving them advice or helping them overcome their fears. Motocross has a special way of connecting all your family and friends. Not only does your family get closer, but with this sport you can get closer to everyone in the motocross community as you travel, ride and compete with them. Motocross is something that brings everything out of you and lets you grow as a person and that’s worth every penny to me.
