The Awful Deadly Truth About Chicken Jerky From China

The Three Little Words – “Made in China”:

The next time you look at jerky treats at a pet food store, look on the label for the three little words: “Made in China“. Often very small, the packaging can be deceiving. It appears as a US product because the product is imported and packaged and distributed in the United States, the name and address of the US company is often prominently displayed. Look very closely and you will likely find in very small letters, these three small words: “Made in China”.

When we first started our search, I asked the owner of our local pet store if she stocked any dried chicken breast treats that weren’t from China. “We don’t carry products from China,” he replied. I took her to her own display case and we looked at every package, which, if we inspected it closely, all contained those three little words: “Made in China.” She was amazed!

Young Pomeranian Gets Sick From Chicken Chips From China:

Our beautiful black Pomeranian, Kona, became ill from eating dried chicken breasts imported from China. Only six months old, Kona was the son of many champions—and he was lively and active. He liked to eat a slice of dehydrated chicken breast (from the local pet food store) before we left for work in the morning to ease his stress. After Kona got “addicted” to these chips, our breeder sent us warning notices about chicken breasts from China. Although it was not included in the national pet food recall, it had received reports of dogs getting sick from the dehydrated “all natural” chicken breasts from China. We called her right away and told her what brand we were using. He told us that if Kona hadn’t had any side effects yet (he had been eating them for about 1 month) then he would be fine.

Chips from China are strangely addictive:

Two weeks later Kona fell ill. He started refusing all foods (except chips). He was completely listless. We remembered that the lady at the pet food store had said that these chicken breast chips from China were very addictive, especially for small dogs. Kona had no energy and was visibly sick, but would only eat dehydrated “all natural” chicken breasts from China.

Treatment:

Medically confirmed, we began treating Kona with Pedialyte and water, via syringe. Children’s rice cereal was also provided – and no more chicken chips from China! Because of his youth and our care, Kona made a full recovery and hopefully no long term effects or organ damage.

Note: If your dog becomes ill, always consult your veterinarian.

Our search for a healthy replacement:

Our search for American made dry chicken breast for dogs has begun. We started with our local pet food store and searched online. We could not find an all-American product that was made in America, processed in America, packaged in America, and sold to American pet owners.

We started experimenting and making our own, starting with 100% USDA inspected chicken. Within months, we had a wholesome, all-American product that Kona was wild about—and we were assured it was safe.
