7 Kids Cooking Party Theme Ideas That Ensure Unforgettable Fun!

Have you ever noticed that many children’s birthday parties focus more on the decorations and activities, and less on the actual theme and food? However, as we continue to experiment with cooking party ideas for our kids, we firmly believe that food should be the main focus! Want to plan a fun-filled party? Try one of these cooking party themes for kids.

Topic #1: Pizza Pizzazz Party!

What kid doesn’t love pizza, especially if he can make it himself. In advance, prepare small bowls, each of which contains a different topping (ie. Children will have fun opening the dough and choosing the toppings. As an appetizer, you can serve a vegetable pizza. For dessert, how about a fruit pizza with a chocolate chip cookie crust?

Topic #2: Chillin’ Ice Cream Party!

No matter the season, ice cream is always a big hit – My son would eat it every day if I let him. During the colder months, let the kids fix their own ice creams. Provide a variety of ice creams and toppings, and don’t forget bananas and cherries. Let the kids be creative in creating and naming their floral creations. Give an award for the best probes. During the warmer months, go outside and make ice cream. Use a recipe for a basic vanilla ice cream and you have lots of delicious ingredients that can be added (ie strawberries, nuts, pineapple, caramel).

Plan some outdoor games, too: water balloons, a wading pool, and a sprinkler are great for keeping kids busy while everyone takes turns monitoring the ice cream’s hardening progress. Oh yeah, make sure you take stray pictures.

Topic #3: Holiday with a sweet attitude!

Mmmm … cookies and muffins — some of our favorite party foods for kids and super easy to make. For the muffins, mix the batter ahead of time. Give each child six cupcake liners of the same color. Use a different color for each guest. Give a variety of fun choices to add to the batter (eg blueberries, raisins, chocolate, etc.).

Sugar cookies are also a great option and kids love making them. They can help roll out the dough and then choose their cookie cutters. Make sure you have lots of different colored frosting, sprinkles and small candies to decorate so the kids can personalize their creations.

Also, make sure you have some healthy snacks available so that sugar overload is kept to a minimum. Encourage children to eat one or two of their creations and take the rest home.

Topic # 4: Summer Feeling Party!

Summer is a great time for a party, especially our fish themed party! In addition to cute fish invitations and decorations, think about fish food – at least in fish shape. You can serve fish crackers, fish-shaped chicken, fish-shaped cookies and a cake that looks like a fish tank with lots of fish swimming around. You and your guests can also whip up some of your baked fish sticks with a side of watermelon salad. For a fun drink, make ice cubes with a frozen Swedish fish in the center of each cube and serve with blueberries mixed with ginger pods to create the perfect blue water for your fish.

Topic #5: Super Star Sleepover!

One of my daughter’s favorite cookout themed ideas for kids is a girls movie night. Invite some girlfriends dressed as their favorite movie star or TV character. If possible, make a square on the red carpet and take a photo of each “star” striking their favorite pose. Since popcorn is a must for the movies, have the girls make a variety of popcorn toppings (eg chocolate, cheddar, garlic, and herbs). You and your guests can also set out your own delicious star-worthy assortment to provide decadent food while watching. To give you an out-of-this-world party, buy glow in the dark star stickers and stick the stickers on cardboard and hang from the ceiling – you’re little stars will love it!

Of course each star will need to get a special party favor. Buy gift bags that are pocket-sized and personalize the bags by writing names with glitter stickers. Fill each pocketbook with superstar sunglasses, a boa, hand mirror, a necklace, chocolate gold coins and fake make-up. Girls will remember this star treatment for a long time.

Topic #6: Princess Tea Party!

Awwww! Every little girl loves to dress up and pretend to be mom! Encourage the girls to bring “dressy” clothes for the tea party — boas, high heels, jewelry, hats and gloves — and have a few extra items on hand for someone to borrow. Plan a tea menu that they can help you prepare, such as small sandwiches and a fun punch for tea. Once the food is ready, let the guests get dressed before they get their delicious treats. You can even have some demonstrations of how to: properly use a napkin, hold a cup of tea and sit up. They will love it!

Topic #7: Enchanted Evening Event!

Children love the opportunity to do nice things for other people – why not reach out to your elderly neighbors who live alone? Invite some neighborhood kids over for a pre-planning session to determine who should receive the invitations and what the meal will be. Also, have the children write down questions they would like to know about their neighbors (ie What did you do for fun when I was my age?) You may want to ask the children to go grocery shopping with you. On the day of the special event, have the kids come early to fix the meal. Make sure children are given tasks that are appropriate for their age or abilities. While dinner is being cooked, the children can set the table with fine china, cloth napkins, candles, etc. The children then have to change into beautiful clothes. As older guests arrive, children can greet, seat and serve them. When dessert time passes, the children can ask their questions. This evening will be encouraging for young and old.

So which theme do you think you’ll start with? Ice cream? Summer fun? Don’t forget to make the event extra special with the perfect children’s party favor for each guest, decorations that make the room sparkle, and fun games to keep everyone entertained. It will surely be an unforgettable event!
