The fate of Rafael Ortiz
It was on the plate
From Doña Leonor’s
When she arrived
In Lima, Peru;
To taste revenge
For cutting the head
Her husband’s.
And so the plot
… played now
(in an alley)
As she fished out her trout!

I was on the plateau
De doña Leonor.
Cuando ella legó
A Lima Peru;
Before savoring la venganza
But la decapitación
De su esposo
Y entonces el plot
Fue llevado a su fin ahora
(En un callejón)
Como ella destripó su trucha!
2) Old Moon
Winds, winds – moments pass
Roll on years and years and more
And the moon continues to shine
On me, with fearless scary nights…
Under its fleeting shadows at dusk
She stands alone, looking into my eyes;
At dusk, we linger, down the path
Like living sphinxes…she follows me:
Looking, looking down, down at me…
There is a time between now and then
I call it forever…and soon…
But that’s between me and you…
Me, you and the twilight moon.
She has her secret eyes you know
Blinks across the sky and meadow
Passing, passing without a sound…by…
Flashing across the meadow and sky!…

Los vientos, los vientos–momentos pasan
Pasan convirtiendo en años, años y más años
Y la luna continues to produce luz
Sobre mi y espeluznantes noches intrépidas…
Bajo sus pasajeras sombras en el crepúsculo
Ella está sola, mirando en mis ojos;
Al anochecer, nos rezagamos, a lo largo del camino
Como una esfinge viva…ella me sigue:
Mirando, mirando abajo, mirándome a mí…
Hay un tiempo entre ahora y entonces
Llamo a esto para siempre…y pronto…
Pero esto es entre mi y tu–

Youth has its age
And old her pride;
Someone thinks they know
The other thinks why;
But youth and age
With split links –
It has common sides:
Life, Death and the Quest,
And a hope chest
That never rests.
Note: this poem was found by the author after 25 years of being misplaced; written May, l981, and reviewed by Poetry North Review, Anchorage, Alaska by Dale A. Stirling, Editor/Publisher l980-86, Poetry North Review, his comments: “…very quiet and conveys real feeling.. ..” The author is not aware if it has been published from any previous anthology, but thinks that this writing has not been published; therefore, the first time published in this collection of poems. #82

La juventud tiene su edad
Y edad su orgullo;
Uno piensa que él sabe,
El otro piensa por qué;
Pero la juventud y la edad
Con lazos separados –
Tenen Lados comunes:
La vida, la muerte, y la búsqueda,
Y una esperanza en el pecho
Estos nunca descansan.
