Hotline To God – Establishing Divine Contact

Many years ago, before I became a daily meditator, I heard a dispute on the radio, about God, where one accused the other: ‘does he think he has his own personal telephone line for God’? the person asked. At the time, even I thought that having a hotline for God was a strange statement. Now, after thirty-five years of meditation, I can say with confidence that it is not only possible, but easy.

In describing God, it helps if we go beyond naming God as a name, as a single entity, because God’s name is not God as we understand the term “name” – biblically, name means nature. Therefore, God translates, Divine Nature, which Nature is Absolute, transcendental, and universal—everywhere, both relative and absolute as a whole, at once. Once we grow beyond the imprisoned mindsets of formal religions and literal interpretations of the Bible, then the reality of the hotline really begins to open up for us – a new dimension of higher consciousness and spiritual wisdom is revealed, which until now it was bluntly conditioned by formal religion. lessons during those early formative years of life.

Since Divine Love is Transcendental, and human emotional love is of the material world, therefore, human love is imperfect, it is not Divine Love. The divine nature, in its purest human experience, is deep natural compassion and deep contentment, or, in yoga, its Bliss. In this context, no matter how sincere human love may be intended towards others, it is still naturally tainted by the influence of the material world, by the unnatural compassionate nature. Therefore, human love constitutes an unpurified emotionalism and, for the most part, in selective expression. It is selective because it is usually reserved only for those close to us, such as family members and trusted acquaintances – it can also be contrived love. Beyond the comfort zone of selective love, especially when it comes to compassion, we are spiritually challenged on all fronts.

When love is conditional, there are usually unresolved, unintegrated emotions operating at the subconscious level, emotions that are at odds with our heart’s natural desire to express authentic Divine Love. Before the awakening of the spiritual soul, each of us is implicitly fueled by deep-rooted fears and insecurities, by a host of ego-invented mindsets that result in our every action being automatically played out on the screen of life – hence conditional love stems from spiritual ignorance. By tending to those we feel are more tolerant of these unresolved deficiencies, we cling to their emotional safety instead of breaking free from our inherited programming — feeding the cycle of the subconscious aspect of the general mind.

Contacting Divine Love

Because contact is a conscious choice, when acted upon it is this choice that activates the true purpose of our life journey here on earth. For human love to become perfect in Divine Love, it is necessary to begin a process of self-purification. In this sense, clearing means expanding the conscious mind—the capacity for deep experience as opposed to mere surface experience. When contact with our eternal Pure Spirit is realized, experienced, then this deeper capacity-the nature of the soul-silence is irreversibly embedded in the nature of the mind/heart, then the Nature of Divine Love is established within our consciousness. Divine Bliss or Pure Compassion is experienced as spiritual intuition, which in reality is our “Direct Line to God”. Of course, the optimal word here is CONTACT. It is considered contact only when such contact is established within consciousness. No amount of intellectualization in contact, verbal or otherwise, produces it. We can say that water is wet, but until contact with water is made, then and only do we know the quality and fluidity attributes of water, which is vastly greater than the description of wet water. Similarly, when we say, God is Love, it remains on the intellectual level until it is directly experienced within the heart, within consciousness.

Establishing contact is not difficult, but it requires a dedicated and disciplined approach. The approach is through various spiritual disciplines such as meditation, yoga and deep breathing exercises known as pranayama – all very simple and practical practices. These practices reorient the nervous system to face Pure Consciousness, our soul — an individualized aspect of God’s Nature — resulting, over time, in Divine Love-nature becoming unconditionally present in life our daily.

Before contact is made, Pure Consciousness does not emanate a quality of Love – for no one could experience such who had not already made contact. That is, in its unmanifested state, Divine Love is the Potential Purity awaiting transformation into the human constitution. Therefore, the transfiguration of our spiritual mechanisms, through contact, is how people know, experience our highest quest, the Divine Nature. This is the meaning behind the biblical quote: “The Transfiguration on the Mountain” — The mountain means the highest point of inner awareness during meditation. For Pure Eternal Potential to become experiential beyond dogma and belief systems, it is absolutely necessary to begin a practice of self-purification, the product of which is the expansion of the mind. This is when the nature of the inner mountain expands to become a settled universal consciousness – the Will of God alive in our heart.

The divine nature has vibrational qualities that vibrate far beyond the level that human emotional love can comprehend or manifest. In this respect, contact changes everything, because, whatever Love passes through, changes into Self – raised to a similar energy ratio. The glory is that contact recalibrates our entire physiology; it inspires matter altering and deepening the nervous system’s ability to divinely, cosmically perceive. Once realized and for such contact to be established, Love for nature must be lived, naturally expressed in an easy way in our daily life. Then, the more we give — the more that passes through us — the more we have to give further — the cycle continues endlessly. If we do not give love energy, express it, then it works against us: we can become angry, moody and even depressed. Because, like electricity, energy cannot be stored – it must flow.

Internal setting

In order to have any experience, there must be a corresponding organization in the nervous system. Therefore, Divine Love becomes potentially realized only when our physiology/nervous system is cultivated to withstand Purity – the maintenance of happiness, peace, contentment or happiness, consistently. And while we can gain peace of mind through literal sound bites on the nature of love, the same format does not apply to the heart: to know Love, the heart must taste direct experience. And, when the heart experiences direct Purity, we will feel it as an inclination to express unquestioning compassion, sincerity, and bubbles of well-being in all situations.

The false ego

In pursuit of the contact of Love, the ego will always present uncomfortable scenarios to eternally delay the expression of our divine heritage. The ego, being the bearer of the false illusory persona, will always try, by any means, to dissuade us from pursuing our noblest goal. Because it is a psychological fiction, in an ego-dominated world Purity does not exist. The ego has no authentic basis, it is not real, therefore it was not created to recognize Love, rather, to promote its opposite. This then is the plank in the eye that needs tweaking, that needs integration. Another example of the ego is, when we say “God is love” this is an intellectual observation of a state beyond the ability of the intellect to know. A simple insight from the perspective of the ego, which is unable to experience what it describes. Because it is transcendental, describing Love through the ego, before spiritual awakening, it lacks spiritual maturity and soul-sourced understanding.

For Love to be it must flow. In the absence of flow, stagnation follows — from where we have all at one time begun our search for divine contact. In other words, stagnation equals suffering, which translates as stress, anger, phobias, addictions, depression plus a host of side effects that these potentially bring on an interpersonal and social level. In the absence of firm contact, a tendency can arise where we become overly attached to the material, obtaining our happiness through materialism. This can happen when it is driven to accumulate endless wealth and riches as a substitute for authentic peace of mind and security in life. When this is the case, then matter dominates the spirit rather than the other way around – a case of living life’s priorities in reverse – the Bible says: “Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven [within]”

And finally, while adhering to the beautiful Bible quotes is obviously a huge positive, the most spiritually authentic will appear to be actually the living divine nature, thus our LIVED experience demonstrated in the world and in the Universal Mind. The point is, make sure we are not moving intellectually from the direct means of making CONTACT, that we are not sending the ball of awareness hard back into the ego field. By placing the mind in complete spiritual silence – like Noah’s Ark (mind) resting on the mountaintop – the ego is transformed, integrated into the spiritual orientation, thus ensuring that our telephone line to God is eternally clear, open and no flow.
