The Kingdom
A new movie called “The Kingdom” has been released.
There was another one not too long ago entitled, “Kingdom of God.”
I am amazed at how often God uses the things of the earth as a reminder of His concerns.
He has often done this in the past as well. Start noticing. Maybe you’ve heard
many other lessons, as I have lately done, concerning His Kingdom.
I was very surprised when, not long ago, an elderly Christian man asked me:
in all seriousness, to explain to him the Kingdom of God.
This topic became so clear to me a few years ago – though
I have been in the ministry for years. At that moment, it was like the eyes of a blind man
opening suddenly. BLING! Maybe I’m a little slower than everyone else, but,
instantly, everything made sense. These days, it’s a favorite topic for me. maybe
you will also benefit from this simple explanation.
The word “Kingdom” comes from the Greek “basilea”. There is nothing to do
with a place that can be seen, like the State Capitol building, for example, for Jesus
said, “The kingdom cometh not by observation.” He added, “I won’t either
People say, “There it is,” or “There it is,” because the kingdom of God is within
you” (Luke 17:20-21). The word literally refers to the rule of the King. This
rule goes wherever the King goes. His dominion is within YOU for
Romans 8:11 tells us that “the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead
dwells within you.” As a result, where YOU go, the Kingdom goes.
Believe it or not.
Jesus went about proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. “Repent! For him
The kingdom of God is at hand!” He said and said to his disciples: “As you go, preach,
saying, “The kingdom of God is at hand!” (Matthew 10:7) The Kingdom of God will
still “play in Peoria”. It boils down to five simple things:
1) There is a King
2) He has a Kingdom
3) He loves you inside it
4) He wants to take care of you there
5) He wants to work WITH you and THROUGH you to bring others into that Kingdom.
Simple, huh?
SPIRITUAL SON
We hear a lot about “childhood” these days. How is this “son” manifested.
in the kingdom of God?
It manifests itself through captivity. (Matthew 20,28; John 13,13-17) – through
obedience—and exercising our God-given authority over “rulers, of
the authorities, the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in
heavenly kingdoms” (Ephesians 6:12).
Our Sonship is to glorify ONLY our Father in the way unbelievers do
see our obedience and devotion to God to such a degree that they will praise Him
He, (Matthew 5:16). We must make people jealous for what we have found in Jesus.
Is this happening?
PURPOSE DRIVEN KINGDOM
The purpose of the Kingdom of God is for its citizens to do God’s will on earth
as His will be done in Heaven. “Thy kingdom come: thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Think of the earth as a mirror of what is going on
in the sky. It became easier for me to do this when I remembered that
the moon shines only because of the boy’s reflection off the blue planet earth.
Sorry…that should read “reflection of the SUN”. As I am fond of saying,
as it is in nature, so it is in spirituality.
Yes, there is a spiritual counterpart to everything we observe with our eyes;
for example, wars and orphaned children come to mind. As you grow up
eager for it, you’ll see these parallels everywhere you look.
The Kingdom of God affects the world and the society in which the citizens of
inhabit the Kingdom. After all, Jesus referred to us as “salt and light” (Matthew 5:13-16).
Salt heals, cleanses, seasons and is worthless when it loses its taste. Light brings
illustrates a new day, a promise of warmth and proof, clarity, hope and a
the absence of darkness.
We influence society through our lifestyle and by manifesting the Light of Christ in
our hearts through our values and decision making. We cry out against injustice,
and testify to Jesus Christ as the only way to reconciliation with God, realizing
that the only solution we offer to injustice and sin is this: Reconciliation with God
through Jesus Christ. We are witnesses of what we have experienced through our own
relationship with God through Christ. Our testimony is revealed through our Character
as well as our witness, that is, we cannot experience Jesus without being changed.
Galatians 5:22 reminds us that there will be “fruit” from the indwelling of Christ
we. Our testimony cannot be divided; we can’t talk it without walking it. we will find
we making disciples as others will want to follow our example and learn
from U.S.
SPIRITUAL vs. MATERIAL STATE
As citizens of the Kingdom of God, what is our relationship with the material
our possessions, personal talents, and relationships? Simply put, we are caretakers,
not owners. We are so often engrossed with so many earthly “things” that we
we limit ourselves to the real availability of the Kingdom. Do not misunderstand me; it is not a sin for him
have things However, all too often, our things have us.
Too often, we are completely handicapped by it.
KINGDOM OF GOD vs KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
In the Gospel of John, the concepts of the Kingdom of God on earth are
referred to as “eternal life”. In most of Matthew’s Gospel, the author
refers to the Kingdom of God as the Kingdom of Heaven, out of respect for
Jewish reverence for God’s name. He was all things to all men within
an attempt to gain some. In Paul’s writing he often refers to the Kingdom Life
as being “in Christ.”
It’s all the same.
A simplified definition of the Kingdom of God might be: the rule of God in
the hearts and lives of those who are born of His Spirit.
How is it?
WHO CAN BE A CITIZEN OF THE KINGDOM?
What Jesus presented for the Kingdom is different from man’s religious one
the meaning of the Kingdom up to His time, was that the Kingdom was
available to “anyone who wants”. This included Gentiles and the poor. they
entered his gates, not by their own efforts, but by fully trusting in God
provision – the bloody sacrifice of Christ. They would fulfill her goals
ONLY through living in the Spirit and following the Spirit (following Jesus
example) in all things.
Many Christians oppose any insistence that discipleship and
Kingdom citizenship requires complete and exclusive allegiance to King Jesus. Others will
argue that this precludes any political activity on behalf of Kingdom Kids
(I remember 1 Samuel 8 when the Israelites asked for a king when they
There was already one in God Almighty). Can we seek political solutions for life?
the problem we face as believers? Of course we can. But when we have the Power
and the Presence of God that dwells within us, why not just believe it
that truth? Selah. After all, there are no natural answers to spiritual problems.
Are we REALLY “salt and light” in our communities? Are we thermostats or?
thermometers, setting the temperatures of our environments or simply reacting
for what has already been decided by others among us? If so, who is it?
influencing whom? The program of Christian social action comes through:
1) moral lifestyles in relationship with God
2) personal assistance to the poor and oppressed
3) prophetic resistance to the ills of society (sin)
4) making disciples
POINTS TO THINK ABOUT
This is an interesting thought: God’s people (in the Old Testament) never
it included ALL or ONLY the Israelites. Have you noticed? Look at Jesus
genealogy and see how many Gentiles (not Jews) are included. Also, see
how many Jews did the Pharisees exclude from the kingdom: the poor, the sick,
debtors, etc. In fact, if you were one of them, or you would have suffered a natural disaster
and lost the harvest one year, you were considered cursed according to
Deuteronomy 28. How contrary to what Jesus taught. How they should have
hated Him!
The first church (ekklesia) of Jesus Christ was founded with 3000 Jews
the members. Only in Acts 10 was the Holy Spirit poured out
Gentile believers. I always found it interesting that Lydia (Acts 16) was
perceived as a “worshiper of God” by Paul (Which god, by the way?). So, the Church
(God’s people) is clearly the representation of the presence of
The Kingdom of God on earth, through the immanent Presence of God from
The Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth and corrects us in our Doctrine and
thinking.
When the Kingdom of God is active in the heart of a Believer, the will of
God was made on earth by that Believer. Remember the Lord’s Prayer (
“Our Father”)? (Matthew 6:10).
When the Kingdom of God is the source of our citizenship and allegiance, we
he will come after peace, he will do justice and mercy, walking humbly forward
Our king.
When we do Kingdom work, we will help the poor, the helpless, the sick
and disenfranchised. Not through a representative human government,
but with our own hands and resources.
When we realize that we are part of a victorious Kingdom on earth, we will
be about our Father’s business.
In the Inverted Kingdom of God, you must lose your life to find it.
You have to give to get. You have to give everything to find treasure. you
it must be soft to be strong. And the last will be first.
There is no contest between the kingdom of darkness and the Kingdom of
The light. Jesus already won the battle and the war. It is our duty to take back
the territory which the devil has held and gained by deceit and fraud.
We are to advance the Kingdom and we have been given all that we would have
always need to fulfill the mission through the Holy Spirit within us.
