Who Was Mark? New Testament Gospel Author
The book of Mark in the New Testament is believed to be the earliest recorded gospel, and some believe it was written between 45 and 65 AD. This is only speculation and no one knows who Mark really was.
It is clear that someone wrote the book of Mark, but no one knows which Mark wrote this New Testament Gospel. I know this doesn’t make much sense, because the author’s name is Mark, wouldn’t early religious scholars know which Mark wrote this specific book that millions of people believe is the truth?
Christian scholars can speculate all they want, but most rational, sane historians do not know who wrote each of the four Gospels, including Mark. Since Mark was the first of the four Gospels written, it is believed that Luke and Matthew used some of the information from the book of Mark to create their Gospels.
Some historians and religious scholars believe that Mark the Evangelist was the person responsible for writing the book of Mark, but again this is only an educated guess by Christian historians and scholars.
It often makes me think twice when I hear Christians tell someone that the Bible is the written word of God, when they can’t even agree on who wrote most of the Bible. This may come as a shock to you, but most religious scholars seem to agree that there is insufficient evidence to support that Moses wrote any part of the Bible.
The next time someone tells you that the Bible is the written word of God, ask them who the men were that God used to actually write the individual books that make up the Holy Bible.
