7 Reasons Christians Should Study the Bible With Jewish Rabbis and Teachers

There are many reasons why you should study the Bible with Jewish rabbis who study the original Bible in its original Hebrew language.

1 – Rabbis are fluent in Hebrew, which is the language of the Bible.

2 – Hebrew words often have multiple meanings. English translations often focus on just one.

3 – Hebrew is a sacred language. Letter shapes matter. A Jewish rabbi can teach you about the “geometric meaning” of the Bible.

4 – If you want to know God’s purpose in the Bible – the Old Testament, then you must study with the people who have studied it the most – that is, with the Jewish people and their teachers – the Rabbis. The Jewish people still practice the Bible every day of their lives.

5 – Sometimes God says a lot with just one or two words. Its true meaning has been passed down in an oral tradition from one generation of rabbis to another. For example, the Bible says (Deuteronomy 6:8) – “You shall bind them (God’s words) as a sign on your arm and as an ornament between your eyes.” What is “a sign” or “an ornament”. Jews pray each day with special prayer items based on these verses. The meaning of these verses and how God wants them to be done has been passed down from God to Moses to the rabbis of all generations. These pairs of religious prayer articles are called “Philactories” in English. In Hebrew, they are called “Tefillin”. They are made today the same as they were 3000 years ago.

6 – Some Hebrew words are acrostics of other words. For example, “Jerusalem” means “City of Peace.” The first part of the name “Jerusalem” consists of the prefix “Yeru”, which is a variant of the Hebrew word “Ir” meaning “city”. The second part of the name “Jerusalem” is the word “salem” which is the same as “shalom”, which means peace. A good translation of Jerusalem is “Peaceville”. Reading the Bible in English will not understand this. Another meaning of the word “salem” is “whole” or “perfect.” So Jerusalem can be translated as either “Peaceville” or “Perfectown”.

7 – Sometimes, the same word has several spellings. For example, the city of Jerusalem is sometimes written with a missing letter. It would be like writing Jerusalem with the spelling “Jerusalem” – in which the letter “a” is omitted. This is done to imply that the city of Jerusalem is often sad. The city is sad when it is plundered by war English translations never have this nuance.

There are many other reasons to study the Bible in its original Hebrew text from a rabbi or Jewish teacher.
