Does God Exist? It’s Not So Hard To Understand
Many people use many excuses to keep from receiving God into their lives. One of these excuses, for example, is to say they have a problem with understanding who God is, or whether or not He exists at all. Some will say they cannot understand the concept of the Trinity, or that God has no beginning and no end. Whether God exists may not be as hard a question to understand as one might think.
First, before we can discuss the attributes of God, let’s look at whether or not He exists. Scientists who believe there is an intelligence behind all the universe and cosmic substance point to the fact that the maze of particles and sub-particles that man has been pursuing to discover from the beginnings of Greek science and philosophy, has proven to be only the opening of doors to yet other worlds of particles ad infinitum.
Some of these particles are measurable, some not, some visible, some not, some pointing to other dimensions not yet discovered — like the ‘neutrino’ particles which are more of a spiritual nature than material because of their ‘nothingness’ element. It is said of their characteristics that they can travel through space without anything deflecting them from their paths, passing through physical walls as thick as our planetary system.
It is interesting to recall how our Lord was seen by many of his disciples and followers coming in and out of their midst through doors that were shut. They were terrified and frightened and thought they were seeing a ghost. Yet he was in a physical form that could be seen and touched. (Luke 24:36-43). There is also the phenomenon of the transfiguration in Mathew 17:2; Mark 9:2,3; Luke 9:29. And the ultimate case of His Resurrection and Ascension — not mentioning all of the miracles he performed.
Scientists know that there is a nothingness between the planets and the effect of gravitation to sustain the cosmic together. We read in the Word of God that God the Son is the image of the invisible God by whom all things were created that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible… and he is before all things and by him all things consist (Colossians 1:15,16).
The Word of God confirms this also in Hebrews 1:2,3, where is says that God the Son was the instrument by whom God the Father made the worlds and who, being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person, upholds all things by the word of his power.
When you put the two scientific and spiritual sources together, you have something quite evident. Another clear evidence of the marriage of science and spiritual truths is found in the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job, which was written long before the onset of man’s scientific knowledge. There we are told that light is in ‘a way’, not a place, and that the planets are light bearers — something that was discovered scientifically a couple of millennia or three later.
Of course the existence of God is still a spiritual matter. One must seek and search for the spiritual truths. The Word of God says that God is a Spirit and that those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Many scientists based their belief on the fact of an actual Divine Creator, Newton for one. Others do not, in spite of all the physical and scientific evidence. The Word of God says “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handywork (Psalm 19:1). It also says, “The fool has said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1).
On the issue that God has no beginning and no end, it is not so hard to understand if you believe in science, because science already approves of the concept of energy having no beginning and no end. According to the principle of energy conservation, energy may be converted from one form into another, but it can never be destroyed. This is confirmed by Max Planck, the originator of modern physics who added that this energy principle extends beyond every discipline of physics as per the classical theory and the quantum theory (God’s Laughter, HarperCollins Publisher).
If God is the intelligence behind this energy, it goes without saying that in the same vein He is also without beginning and end. The Word of God actually says that God is the alpha and the omega — the beginning and the end of all things; all things meaning, physical, metaphysical, spiritual, visible and invisible, etc. known to man.
As far as who He is, all one has to do is read His Book. Who else is more equipped to tell you about Himself then the one who wrote about Himself. The Bible is the only book that tells everything we need to know about Him. The number 1 bestseller of all times. You can never out-read it because it is the Living Word of God. It reveals more and more truths as you read it and become able to take in the deeper material of its multi-dimensional content.
He is the Creator, the Provider, the Redeemer, the Lord God Almighty, the Most High God, the Lord Master, the Lord Jehovah, the Lord My Banner, the Lord My Shepherd, the Lord Who Heals, the Lord Who Is There, the Lord Our Righteousness, the Lord Who Sanctifies You, the Everlasting God, the Lord Who Is Peace, the Lord of Hosts… to name a few of His names mentioned in the Bible.
On the Trinity, opponents of the Christian belief say that Christians worship three gods. Well, that isn’t true at all. Christians worship one God. And this God is known as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This does not mean there are three gods. It means that God is known as three personalities, delivering three missions at different sundries of times in the Old and New Testaments.
First He is known as the Father. What is a father. A father is one who has children. That’s where we come from as created in the book of Genesis. God is our “Father who art in heaven”. Then we have the Son who came in the perfect time of man’s historical development on earth, to personally deliver the message of Redemption. He is God the Father in His incarnated facet. Same God. Then in these last days, since c.33 A.D., He has been present in His spiritual aspect as the Holy Spirit, leading and guiding us into all truth. Again, same God. One God, not three.
As for His eternal existence without beginning nor end, why is it that some people find it impossible to believe. Their question is: “But where does God come from?” When God gave His name to Moses, He called Himself “I am”. When Jesus was speaking to the folks about His origins, he said “before Abraham was, I am”. God IS always./dmh
