It fills up very quickly! My suggestion is to make a really nice cover that you can slide your notebook into. Then when it’s full, just put it in a new empty notebook.

Make the cover something special for you. You can make it out of material and embroider something on it, or simply stick a beautiful photo on a strong paper that will stand up over time. I made a cover from a plastic wall covering material. I liked it because it was blue and had stars, moon and sun on it. Find something special. This will improve your journaling experience.

Buy a special pen

A pen that writes easily and smoothly makes writing a joy. For a while I bought gel rollers. I love the way they write. I finally gave up on them because they don’t last long. But find something that feels good in your hand. Pens can be thick and heavy or very thin. Choose the one that suits your hand and writing style. Choose something that appeals to you. Save it just to write it in your journal.

Choose a specific place to write

Find a place that is secluded and private. Find a place that has special meaning — a place that feels good. I bought an old second hand desk from a neighbor at a yard sale. It was small and just a perfect little thing to write on. It was big enough to write my journal and had a small drawer that was big enough for my journal and pen.

Find something that invites you. A special table — a special place you’ll enjoy coming back to again and again and again.

Choose the best time of day

For me, the best time was morning. Not always, but more often than not, it was the first thing I did during the day. Find out what works for you. Breakfast may not be your choice. If you take the time to figure out when your best time is, you’ll be more likely to succeed in journaling.

A journal works best if it is private. It becomes a confidential friend to whom you can tell and express anything. It can be a real source of comfort and a tool to get your emotions and dreams out.
