Sage Essential Oil – Homemade Skin Care and More!

Sage oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of clary sage. This plant grows approximately two to three feet tall and wide with square, hairy stems. It blooms with pink, white, light blue or lilac flowers in late spring or early summer. It is a hardy, perennial plant with large felty, deciduous leaves. Grows well in full sun and in large containers. It is found in the regions of the northern Mediterranean, northern Africa and Central Asia. Historically used as a medicinal herb, it is now mostly grown for its essential oil. This oil overall stimulates the brain, nervous system, liver, spleen, circulation and excretory functions. Clary Sage essential oil has a light golden color. It has a thin to medium consistency and an earthy, herbal, slightly fruity aroma. It is used in different ways.

Clary Sage essential oil can be used in a variety of ways: in burners, vaporizers, massages, baths, creams, lotions, hair care, commercial products, and anti-aging skin care products. Use it to make homemade soap, homemade lotion, or homemade shampoo for oily hair. Make sure you follow all the instructions carefully in your home skin or hair and scalp care. This special oil blends well with juniper, lavender, geranium, sandalwood oil, jasmine oil, frankincense, ginger, rosewood, rosemary, hyssop, tea tree (melaleuca oil), lemon, orange and other citrus oils. Clary Sage “Absolute” essential oil has a hint of mint and is sweeter than Clary Sage Oil. Both of these essential oils are different from clary sage oil, otherwise known as clary sage oil.

DALMATION SAGE (COMMON SAGE)

Dalmatian sage differs chemically and aromatically from Clary sage. This essential oil is steam distilled from Salvia officinalis, a small, hardy, evergreen, dwarf shrub. It has woody stems, grayish leaves and blooms with white, pink, blue to purple flowers in late spring or summer. It grows approximately two feet tall and wide and is native to the Mediterranean region. It has other common names; sage, common sage, garden sage, golden sage, kitchen sage, true sage, kitchen sage and broadleaf sage. This essential oil has a strong herbal, fresh fruity aroma with a bright color and thin consistency. Its benefits are similar to those of Clary Sage Oil. Blends well with: bergamot oil, rosemary, tangerine, orange, grapefruit and lemon essential oils. It is most commonly used in perfumes, soaps, lotions, creams, candles, laundry detergents, massages, cosmetics, deodorants, facial care products, and for aromatherapy benefits.

WARNING ON ELECTRICAL OILS to watch out for

ATTENTION! Avoid clary sage essential oil if you have: sensitive skin, breast cancer, high risk of breast cancer, hysteria, history of high blood pressure or epilepsy. Avoid if you are pregnant. Do not drink alcohol while using this oil as it may have a narcotic effect. Do not use on infants or children.

ATTENTION! Dalmation Oil is more likely to cause skin irritation than other essential oils. Don’t expect immediate improvement in your skin care with Dalmation Oil or Clary Sage Oil. Three to six months can bring results. You also wouldn’t want to substitute clary sage oil for clary sage if you’re looking for the same sage scent you find in the spice jar. Dalmatian sage has a bitter, biting, aromatic edge in its aroma.

ATTENTION! Essential oils contain bioactive components. This means they contain natural chemicals that interact with biological systems. These are strong chemicals and should be used with care. Never use large amounts of essential oils externally or internally. Never use them directly. They must always be diluted with a carrier oil or soap, lotion or other buffering agent. Finally, never use without knowing what their bioactive compounds are known to do.
