Negative Gossip – Can’t You Think of Something Better to Talk About?

A client recently asked me, “What else could you talk about if you cut gossip out of the conversation?” A very good question because most of us spend a lot of time gossiping. It can be about “harmless” things like the behavior of the neighbors, how someone down the road was caught with a strange woman, how the guy next door was caught drink driving. Or how one of our childhood friends got drunk (and got sick on the school bus). Most of us, to a greater or lesser degree, revel in gossip – especially when it gets in the face of someone else.

Of course, if you think about it for a moment, none of these things are harmless. In fact, it is actually harmful. First, it directs our energy towards the negative. But more importantly, it reduces the amount of energy available to us to do what we should be doing—right here, right now.

We all know the saying that what goes around comes around – step on that particular “sorry-go-wheel” at your own peril! We all know the concept that you reap what you sow – same thing. These are old sayings that have been confirmed by modern science – quantum physics. You get out what you put in. Invest your energy in nonsense – and your life will be little more than nonsense itself. Rejoice in other people’s misfortune and you will bring your own misfortune. Buddhists might call it the wheel of karma – a physicist might simply describe it as energy responding to energy.

And in fact, this is the most important aspect of how negative gossip can affect defamation. If you “invest” your energy into talking trash, you’ve immediately reduced the time and energy you have available to do the really important things you need to do today. You don’t have to be a mathematician to figure out that time wasted on crap reduces the amount of time you have to do things. And yet, many people complain that they simply don’t have enough hours in the day to do all the things on their “To Do” list!

If you invest your energy in the negative, you perpetuate the well-proven fact that the normal mind gravitates toward negativity. This is seriously bad for you because it is your own state of mind that creates your life. Energy In: Energy Out – By pouring your energy into the negative, you’re not only wasting time, distracting yourself from the important things of the day, but actively watering the seeds you’ve been planting throughout your adult life. to create a normal life that is not so bad at best.

Cut out the negative gossip. Stop diverting your energy away from creating the effortless happiness and success you can leave behind, just channel your energy into it. Stop wasting time rejoicing in bad news—news that only confirms that it’s okay not to be so bad. Stop reading the crap in the papers. Don’t get me wrong, we all need to keep up with what’s going on in the world, but we don’t need to drown in the “news” of rapes, assaults, murders, and generally so-called normal people behaving badly. Stop channel hopping – immerse yourself in ‘reality TV’ that brings car crashes, car chases and true crime to our screens. That’s not reality, it’s just more proof that normal people have been eradicated, and more consolation for you that you’re living a not too bad life. True reality can be found in the wonder of this here and now. That’s just more examples of “normal” people behaving inappropriately, and it’s definitely not fun.

Control yourself, you are a responsible adult, right? Take responsibility for the one thing in this life that you are completely and absolutely responsible for, your own state of mind and where you direct your attention. Why not start talking about good things, talk about how good people are, exchange nice stories instead of competing with each other over the coffee break or at the fridge to see who can tell the most depressing story – about someone being mugged , about car thefts, about people with serious illnesses. Seriously, all you have to do is watch the conversations happening around you all the time (some of which you’re involved in) to realize what’s going on. Negative gossip drains your energy and leads you to the negative. The result – your negative energy actively contributes to the negative world – stress, worry, anxiety, violence and war. Every drop of “negative” adds to the sea of ​​negativity.

Stop it. Grow. Focus on the good in all of our lives. Not only will you feel better—not only will it make a few people around you feel better, too—you’ll be more optimistic and focused on doing wholeheartedly what really needs to be done today. But better yet, and more importantly, you’ll be riding the Karma Wheel – putting the positive in, you get the positive out. That makes more sense, doesn’t it?
