No Kidding – There’s a Bibleville RV-Park in the Texas River Grande Vally (RGV)
What is it?
Bibleville is a 40-acre nondenominational Bible conference center in Alamo, Texas, where “Winter Texans” (also called “Winter Volunteers”) share their faith and participate in various activities during the winter months. Although it has mobile homes and RV hookups, it is not primarily a mobile home park. Emphasis is on serving winter Texans and local citizens, largely Hispanic.
Bibleville can accommodate more than 500 seniors through its 100 hookup sites and 180 leased mobile home lots. It seats 800 for regular services, Sunday schools, Bible studies, prayer groups, Bible and religious conferences, sacred concerts and jams, including our own Glory Band, religious entertainment, crafts, dinners and various special project meetings. .
Nevertheless, in 1993 Bibleville merged with the Rio Grande Bible Institute in nearby Edinburg, Texas. The latter is a nondenominational four-year Bible school for the training of Latin American missionaries that includes the border areas between Mexico and the United States. It was founded in 1946 by the Danish evangelist MC Ehlert. Initially, this college taught in English and Spanish. But in 1955 it only went to Spanish. Provides an intensive one-year Spanish course for non-native students who will serve in Spanish-speaking countries. Thus, Bibleville includes both Latin American ministries and their own for Winter Texans and local citizens.
Can anyone stay there?
Yes. Anyone over the age of 55 can apply to stay there and spend 28 hours a week doing their mission work during the winter months. However, the park wants applicants who are Christians with references. In addition, anyone serving on the park’s board of directors or in certain leadership roles must commit in writing to the 15 comprehensive articles of faith.
How much does connection and rental cost?
Through internet sources, around $250 per month for six months.
What are the specific missions of Bibleville?
Its mission is to help, be helpful and charitable. These may include cleaning, sewing, cooking, housekeeping, and manual labor such as mowing, tree trimming, plumbing, electrical, and several types of repairs, as well as collecting food and goods to donate to areas in need.
Are these winter Texans participating in ministries in Latin America?
Probably not, or rarely. Retirees and older winter Texans generally don’t have the time or energy to complete four years of college or take an intensive language course that requires passing an aptitude test. However, they can serve locally or in poor areas along the border and elsewhere as mentioned above.
Can Winter Texans take a year-long Spanish course on their own?
Not really. This course requires mission commitments assigned to the school itself. No one can take this course to learn only the language.
Is there anything interesting about this park for people who don’t know it?
Yes. Bibleville’s holds five or more free Bible conferences in its hall every year from January to early March. These weekly conferences are taught by well-known PhD students and ministers from different parts of the continent. Participants from all over the world also come to these evening conferences. The only cost for out-of-town visitors is food and room. Winter volunteers living in the park can participate as many times as they like.
This park also hosts at least nine Saturday evening gospel or religious concerts open to the public during this period. These concerts are talented traveling music or theater groups. Price: voluntary offer.
Conclusion.
Bibleville is decidedly Bible-oriented. Even its streets have biblical names. Additionally, it offers a useful purpose to those “snowbirds” who want more from life in the winter valley than fun and relaxation in warmer weather, even if they can do it at their leisure. God uses everyone.
