Sheila and Ron

As the evening wears on and Ron has not yet arrived for the dinner Sheila has lovingly prepared for just the two of them, she sits and waits. With every minute that passes, the candles burn lower and lower and Sheila is getting angrier at his absence, not to mention she’s almost certain he’s forgotten her birthday again. He calls and asks several times where he is. By the time they arrive, Sheila has become so enraged that when Ron enters, she lunges at him and tries to slap him. Being an ex-marine, Ron has quick reflexes and manages to dodge the slap in time, but there’s no escaping the verbal abuse that follows, which clearly paints him as a selfish, self-centered, uncaring, up-for-nothing . loser.

Conclusion: Two days later they broke up on good terms and Ron has never remembered Sheila’s birthday since! Sheila might have known how to attract menbut she certainly didn’t know how to interest them!

Enid and Fred

Enid is well aware that Fred will probably forget her birthday again this year, but instead of reminding him, she decides to wait and see. Since her birthday is an important day for her, she doesn’t want to miss out on the fun, so she invites her mom, dad, and a few friends. He also chats with Fred’s close friend Harry, who has been out of the country for a few weeks, and invites him to surprise Fred with his return (he mentions that it’s his birthday).

Sometime after nine, Fred arrives. He walks in and greets everyone, asking, “So, what’s the occasion?” Sheila laughs playfully and says, “Fred, it’s my birthday. Did you forget?”

“Of course not,” says Fred.

“Oh, I’m glad,” said Enid. “I can’t wait to see what you have in store for me!”

“Soooo what did you give me?”

Feeling stuck and unsure of how to get out of it, Fred is relieved to hear a knock on the door. He opens the door to find his good old friend Harry, who has returned from overseas. Thank goodness he’s thinking, “This is going to get me out of the limelight!”

Harry enters and greets everyone. “Enid” she says, “Happy birthday. I have a little present for you, it’s only small but I hope you like it?”

At this point, Fred realizes there is no way out of this situation and comes clean, admitting he forgot Enid’s birthday and apologizing profusely.

Conclusion: Five years later, Fred and Enid are happily married. Fred never dared to forget another of Sheila’s birthdays and he always remembers their wedding anniversary too! Enid wonders if he’s still trying to make up for those first two forgotten birthdays, since he’s been lavishing her with big gifts and pampering her with breakfast in bed and romantic dinners on those special occasions. They are very happy together. Enid definitely knows art how to attract men and keep them interested.
