Halloween Party Games – 5 Fun and Thrifty Ideas

Planning a Halloween party this year? There is no need to spend a lot of money on expensive equipment or spend hours inventing complex entertainment. Try these five easy and fun games that kids three and up can enjoy:

Ghost hunting

Grab a bag of Halloween themed chocolates: these are commonly found in supermarkets and other shops at this time of year – if you’re really stuck, look online. Chocolates in the shape of ghosts, bats and pumpkins are what you are looking for. Ask the party guests to stay in one room or maybe stand outside while you hide the chocolates around the house. Then release them to try to find (and eat) as many as possible.

Dead Fred

You will need a collection of bowls and tea towels to cover them. Then you collect all the pieces of ‘Dead Fred’. Use peeled grapes for eyeballs, unshelled corn kernels for teeth, cold cooked pasta for guts, peeled tomatoes for hearts, chopped pieces of wool for hair (and so on – you get the idea). Guests must feel what is in each bowl under the towel and guess which piece of dead Fred they are touching. Be prepared for some snickering. You can introduce the game by making up the story of how poor Fred met his death – make it as funny and gruesome (depending on the age of your audience) as you can.

Witch Cave

Designate a “witch cave” somewhere in the house (just to be safe, keep it away from stairs or anywhere people might hurt themselves rushing there). Close the curtains and turn off the lights. Nominate someone for witch and the rest of you scatter. The witch has to come and find you while the rest of you have to try to get to the base without getting caught. Extra fun when the witch catches the victim, she casts a tickling spell on them.

Apple bobsledding

Go old school and try apple bobsledding. As simple as it sounds; float a few apples in a bowl of water (a dishwashing bowl works well) and have guests try to grab the apples with their teeth. The floor (and the guests) will get wet, so play it in a room with a waterproof floor and maybe give the participants a waterproof coat to wear.

Musical zombies

Just like the musical statues, except when the music stops, everyone has to do the scariest zombie pose and grimace they can. Have your camera ready to capture the best ones!
