King James Bible Onlyist’s – All About People Who Worship the King James Bible

People who worship the King James Bible!!?? What the heck is this Crosby man now I hear you ask? Who heard of such a thing? Well, if you are new to basic Christian and biblical things, it will all sound very strange, even surreal, but alas, it is true. There really are people out there who love the King James Bible. How and why do they do this? Easy, they respect it as flawless, perfect, or, in their favorite word, “flawless.” To these people there are no errors in the King James Bible, and its “safe” theme has become, to them, a religion. Now, once something becomes the object of a religion, by default, it then becomes the object of their worship. The other sad thing, as a result of this strange behavior, is that it causes other mainstream Christians to screw up their pants and ally themselves with some modern translations. mainly the ESV (English Standard Version) and the NIV (New International Version), as a type of rebellion.

This whole infantile attitude is what I call mainstream Christian “emotional knee jerk” and it is a very common occurrence in their circles and has been for generations. If you analyze the history of all mainstream Christian denominations, you will find that someone, somewhere, had a brainwave of supposed biblical understanding or something new and before you could say Jack Robinson, their fellowship would split down the middle with half supporting the new doctrine and the other half uphold the old, and so it is with the issue of Bible editions. It is also a classic example of how schisms or divisions are made among themselves. It’s bad enough when an important doctrine falls, but to be divided over which version of the Bible they use is, to me, stupid in the extreme. Again, we have to remember that most of them are deluded anyway, so I guess schisms and divisions are to be expected (See my article “The Deluded State of Mainstream Christianity”).

So why is this issue of Bible Version so controversial? Well, it is because in recent decades many new versions of the Bible have been published – two of which I have already mentioned. These new editions are written in modern everyday English, departing from the Shakespearean English of the King James Version, which was published in 1611. This edition was approved by King James I of England and VI of Scotland, so it is also known as the Authorized Version. At this point, let me make it clear, that without a doubt, it is the premier English Bible and has no equal, no matter what modern translation fans may say. The reason it’s still the top version is simply because it has fewer bugs or man-made contaminations than modern versions. That said, modern versions can be helpful when studying certain passages of the Bible where the Old English can be very difficult to decipher and understand. This means that although I use the KJV most of the time, I also refer to modern translations, as we should if we are true seekers of Truth in the written Word.

I will not continue here with the KJV versus modern translations argument because I want to return to the issue of error in relation to the KJV.

Now are these people right who make this claim, for I can prove without much difficulty that there are errors in the pages of the King James Bible, but are they errors in the true sense? By that, I mean, are mistakes caused by God? No it is not; They are contaminations or errors of religious men, or additions of religious men and men with a religious agenda or three. You see, what these KJV only people can’t seem to get over is the fact that man has been tampering with God’s Holy Word since it was written. It is not good to quote Scriptures like Matthew 24:35 and Psalm 12:6-7 because it proves nothing other than that the words of the Lord will be preserved, not the written word:

Psalms 12:6-7 The words of the Lord is clear words: as silver tried in an earthen furnace, purified seven times. 7 You will protect them, Lord, you will protect them their from this generation forever.

These verses in Psalm 12 speak of the generations of Israel and how God’s people have been preserved throughout time from their enemies. Verse 6 breaks the context of this matter by referring to the preservation of God’s Word and returns to the preservation of men in verse 7. The KJV only people seem to think that verse 7 is an ancient promise to preserve only their beloved Bible. This can only be the arrogant reasoning of men. That said, we have a problem, especially in verse 7, because according to Adam Clarke in his commentary, some manuscripts have “we” instead of “them,” so this verse could have a double meaning, because the Israelites and the Jews have all been preserved in the generations from that generation and so are the Sayings of the Lord but not necessarily the written Word and certainly not just within the pages of the King James Version.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Matthew 24:35 Proves what I say, notice, heaven and earth will pass away, which, by definition, must include all written words. The written Word cannot survive after the death of earth and heaven. So how does the Lord guard His words? Through more sayings – the spoken Word of men empowered by the Holy Spirit.

How do these KJV only people explain how Christians from the first century to about 1500 when the first English Bibles were translated by Wycliffe and Tyndale manage to hear the Word of God. For a thousand years, from about 500 AD. until about 1500 AD, the Holy Word of God was hidden in Latin, so the English could not read it even if they wanted to. Where was the KJV then? It wasn’t, because it hadn’t been written down or printed, how did these early Christians learn about it? From the words of the Lord as recorded in Psalm 12:6. It’s all about the sayings, the spoken word, not the written word, and it’s the sayings that are preserved. Here’s another thing, the Bibles of Wycliffe and Tyndale differed from the King James Bible and yet it was still the Holy Word of God written. They came before the King James Bible, so were they wrong too? No, of course not, but they were certainly good enough for a nation of people who had never seen God’s Holy Word printed in their own language before. It must have been like manna from heaven and not a KJV Bible in sight.

We must also understand that Paul had no written word apart from the Holy Scriptures of the Office. Paul went with a new message, a new Holy Spiritual oral message, so that his listeners did not have a KJV Bible to refer to. The first written words of the New Testament were in Greek, there was a Hebrew version of the Gospel of Matthew, and some say there was an Aramaic version of the Gospel of Mark, but no one knows for sure. Either way there was no KJV Bible, but there were True Believers and vibrant church areas.

What other evidence do we have? As it happens, many and all from the KJV:

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by listening and hearing by the word of God.

Galatians 3:2 This only I would learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:5 He therefore that ministereth unto you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, it does by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith?

That’s what the Lord promised to preserve – His Sayings, His spoken Word, not His written Word. When we look at the complete history of the Church of God, we can clearly see that the spoken Word has been the primary instrument for spreading the message of God’s Good News, not the written Word. That said I will not discount the importance of the written Word in our latest technological printing age and the KJV does not have a monopoly on this medium and is not without error. For an example of these errors, see my series of articles on the Ogre gods and specifically the articles on the doctrine of the trinity.

After all I’ve written, you might want to say something like this: “Okay, so what you’re saying is that we can’t rely on all of the Holy Scriptures for the absolute truth is that what you’re suggesting Charles Crosby? Yes, I am too ‘ we must search things to see if it is just so, as the Bereans did in Paul’s time. As he once said to me: “The Lord feeds the birds, but He does not sprinkle their food on the nests!”
